About Takis
Takis are rolled corn tortilla chips from Barcel, the snack company of Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo. Each chip is rolled tight, like a miniature taquito, and coated in seasoning that runs from chilli and lime to cheese with no heat at all.
They first went on sale in Mexico in 1999. Fuego, the chilli-and-lime flavour in the purple bag, followed in 2006 and became the brand’s signature, and in 2014 Takis won Nielsen’s Breakthrough Innovation award in the United States. Grupo Bimbo operates in more than 30 countries.
Europe has followed quickly. When Aldi UK stocked Takis as a Specialbuy in September 2023, it limited shoppers to one pack each; in February 2024 Co-op gave the brand its first permanent UK grocery listing, across 600 stores. UK trade press has credited much of that demand to TikTok, where the brand’s British account alone has more than 100,000 followers.
